Have you ever had a Shamrock Shake from a fast food joint? Well then you already know how delicious this smoothie tastes. Unlike fast food beverages, this Spirulina Shamrock Shake is packed with nutrients and contains zero unhealthy ingredients.

Spirulina is a blue green algae and it is one of my favorite superfoods. Full of digestible vegetarian protein, vitamins, minerals, and important fatty acids, spirulina is truly a superfood superstar. Spirulina is also a great food for detoxification as the algae binds to toxins and flushes them out of the body.

Green smoothies are an easy and delicious way to add spirulina to your diet. If you don’t have spirulina on hand, you could add a spoonful of chlorella or a handful of spinach.

Combine all ingredients in a large blender and blend on high until smooth. If necessary, add ice to thicken and chill the smoothie. This recipe creates 1 large smoothie, or 2 small smoothies. Enjoy!

This smoothie is truly versatile. If you’d like it thicker, or colder, simply add ice. If you’d like it sweeter, add more honey. You could also make this shake without the greens, but then you won’t get all of the amazing nutrients found in spirulina. Give it a shot!

Recipe Notes: When a recipe calls for almond milk try to use organic or homemade. Non-organic almond milk tends to contain a host of artificial ingredients that are anything but healthy. You should also choose an organic spirulina powder for this recipe. Spirulina can become contaminated by the water it grows in which is why it is so important to purchase a pure and organic spirulina supplement.
